IS THERE A CONSPIRACY TO CONCEAL THE CREATOR'S NAME??
In Genesis 2 we are told that the Creator of the heavens and the earth has a name.1 Do you know what that Name is? Most respond with God, Lord, Almighty, etc. This mistake is nothing new and is probably the reason for the penning of the following proverb.
Proverbs 30:4 “Who has gone up to the heavens and come down? Who has gathered the wind in His fists? Who has bound the waters in a garment? Who established all the ends of the earth? What is His Name, And what is His Son’s Name, If you know it?”
Are you aware that the actual Name of The Creator is mentioned some 6871 times in the original manuscripts?!?! 6871 times! Doesn't that leave the impression that HE wants people to know and proclaim His name? Consider Exodus 20:7 from the King James Version; “Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.” The English translation of the Hebrew word shav' to vain is a poor translation. According to Strong's, the Hebrew word, H7722, H7723; shav' means “to desolate, destroy, ruin, bring to nothing, render useless.” By replacing His name with LORD, this verse provides a perfect example of rendering His Name useless! How ironic is that?
Throughout the centuries, His name has been repeatedly corrupted, covered up, proclaimed unspeakable and ultimately forgotten in Israel. Traditional Christianity is following suite... For example, recently, during a visit to a Christian church, the itinerant minister made mention that he had been preaching for over 40 years and at one point in his sermon, he raised his voice and shouted, “There is ONLY ONE NAME that you need to know!” He paused, looked around and then spelled out the name that he was referring to; “G-O-D!” My wife and I were stunned! After 40 years, he still thinks that the generic title; “GOD” is The Creator's Name!? Something is very wrong!
Propagating unfounded Pharisaical tradition, influential people claim that “The Name is too sacred to be spoken and should be avoided or changed, so as to remain hidden!” These types of traditions were obviously prevalent in Israel during Messiah's earthly ministry. Mark 7:6-8 But He answered and said to them, Well has Isaiah prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written,This people honors Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me. However, they worship Me in vain, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. For laying aside the commandment of God, you hold the tradition of men...” What is concerning to me is that Christianity continues in this error...
Lets look closer at the titles being used to replace His Name.
THE TITLE “LORD”
We will again refer to the KJV wording of Exodus 20:7. Commandment #3;
“Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.”
False prophets were leading the people of Israel to reject The Commandments and worship Baal and Ashtoreths! Judges 2:13 “So they forsook YHWH and worshiped Baal and the Ashtoreths.”2 Isn't this what is happening today in Christianity??
In the Strong's Dictionary of Hebrew we find in the definition of H1167, the word Baal; “master, husband, lord.” Jeremiah and Hosea confront false prophets causing people to replace The Creator's Name with “Baal” the supreme deity of sun worship!3
Jer 23:26-27 “Till when shall it be in the heart of the prophets? – the prophets of falsehood and prophets of the deceit of their own heart, who try to make My people forget My Name by their dreams which everyone relates to his neighbor, as their fathers forgot My Name for Baal.”(or LORD)
Hos 2:16-17 “And it shall be, in that day,” declares YHWH, “that you call Me ‘My Husband,’ and no longer call Me ‘My Baal.(or LORD) And I shall remove the names of the Baals from her mouth, and they shall no more be remembered by their name.”
THE TITLE “GOD”
As discussed above, we even see Baal connected to the title “God”, referring to “Baal-Gawd” (pronounced like it is today; God) in Joshua.4 Sun worshipers named these locations after the names of their sun deities. As previously mentioned, the Creator's Name is stated 6871 times in the original manuscripts. Obviously, He wants His Name known and to be made distinct from other belief systems who use the title “God” in reference to their supreme deity. The inspiration behind this is Lucifer, so as to exalt himself above the True Creator!5 It is interesting that this rebellious fallen angel's name has been preserved in the scriptures. Isn't it?
THE WRONG NAME “Jehovah”
First; The letter “J” was not a letter in any alphabet until 1524AD. So, originally a “J” could not have been in The Creator's name 6871 times...
Secondly; The Hebrew suffix; “hovah” H1943 in Strong's is defined as “ruin, mischief.” So, based on the origins of the “J” plus the suffix definition, how could His name be Jehovah? Then we have from the Kingdom Interlinear Translation of the Greek Scriptures, (Jehovah's Witnesses), The Watchtower Bible and Tract Society of New York, Inc., admit in their forward (pp.23) that: “While inclining to view the pronunciation “Yahweh” as the more correct way, we have retained the form “Jehovah” because of people's familiarity with it since the 14th century.” Wait! What? They admit that Jehovah is the wrong name, but is more familiar, so it's okay to use? SAYS WHO?
HEBREW TITLES “HaShem & Adonai”
Then we have Messianic groups like the Hebrew Roots and Jewish Roots folks who know that titles like “LORD, G-D and God” are not acceptable, but then delve into the use of titles in their own way. Consider;
HaShem means “The Name” in Hebrew and is being used instead of His Name. Is this any different than using “GOD, G-D or LORD!” It is NOT His Name and is still a replacement bringing His Name to nothing...
Adonai means “Master” in Hebrew and also is being used instead of His Name. Adonai is very close to the name of the Greek god, Adonis, and it is NOT the Name given by the Creator 6871 times in reference to Himself. Again, to replace His Name by using any other word or title is bringing His Name to nothing...
A MORE TRUTHFUL AND ACCURATE WAY
Now lets consider a more accurate translation of our example verse in Exodus 20:7. “You do not bring the Name of YAHWEH6 your Elohim7 to naught (nothing, useless) for YAHWEH does not leave the one unpunished who brings His Name to naught.”
Moses was given the Commandments. Moses was told the Name of The One giving these Commandments. Moses would not have replaced or removed HIS Name. I believe that the name given to Moses was YAHWEH, based on the following evidence...
1. Besides the 6823 times that YAHWEH was replaced, the shortened version of His Name (YAH) has also been replaced 48 times with “LORD.” That is, with ONE exception in earlier publications of the KJV;
Psalm 68:4 (KJV) “Sing unto God, sing praises to his name: extol him that rideth upon the heavens by his name JAH, and rejoice before him.” (Hebrew; YAH: the short form of His Name)
2. YAH is also found in the names of His Prophets... and their name's meaning;
Eng. Isaiah Heb. Yeshayah Meaning; Saved of YAH
Jeremiah Yirmeyah Appointed of YAH
Obadiah Obadyah Servant of YAH
Zephaniah Tsephanyah Secret of YAH
3. The archaeological evidence;
The Dead Sea Scrolls contain His Name in Hebrew throughout.
The Mesha Stele 840 BCE, (Moabite Stone) contains His Name in Paleo Hebrew.
The Septuagint (LXX) contains the Tetragrammaton of His Name; YHWH.
“YHWH” is called the Tetragrammaton; The four English letters corresponding to the four Hebrew letters “Yod Hay Vav Hay” representing the Name of YAHWEH. In Hebrew the “V” is pronounced with more of a “W” sound, thus; YAH-WEH.
YHWH, knowing that man would be inspired to bring His Name to nothing and ultimately to forget His Name, promised through His prophet Jeremiah (real name:Yirmeyah) to make HIS Name known in the last days. Consider; Jer. 16:21 “Therefore see, I am causing them to know, this time I cause them to know My hand and My might. And they shall know that My Name is YHWH” Why is knowing His Name so important?
So that we can know and call upon His Name in truth for deliverance/salvation/worship!
Joel 2:32 “And it shall be that everyone who calls on the Name of YHWH shall be delivered.”
John 4:23 “But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers shall worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father also does seek such to worship Him.”
Acts 2:21 ‘And it shall be that everyone who calls on the Name of YHWH shall be saved.
Romans 10:13 For “everyone who calls on the Name of YHWH shall be saved.”
The Psalms and Prophets address those who despise/scorn His Name!
Psalm 74:18 Remember this: the enemy has reproached YHWH, And a foolish;wicked people has despised;scorned/blasphemed Your Name.”
Isaiah 52:5 “And now, what have I here,” declares YHWH, “that My people are taken away for naught? Those who rule over them make them wail,” declares YHWH, “and My Name is despised;scorned/blasphemed all day continually.”
Malachi 1:6 “A son esteems his father, and a servant his master. And if I am the Father, where is My esteem? And if I am a Master, where is My fear? said YHWH of hosts to you priests who despise;scorn/blaspheme My Name...”
